Eligibility and Allocation Rules for all open 2LDs (Second Level Domains) Overview

  • Allocated on first come, first served basis.
  • No proprietry rights are implied.
  • Non-compliant domains can be revoked.
  • It is not possible to pre-register.
  • Contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphen (-).
  • Not contain hyphen in consetion (aa--bb.com.au).
  • There is no restriction on the number of licences.
  • 2 year registrations only.
  • You licence, not own the name.
  • Allocation rules apply for each 2LD.
  • Domains must be at least 2 characters.
  • Start with letters or numbers, not hyphens.
  • Renewal is dependant on eligibility.
  • Reserved list names may not be registered.

Eligibility and Allocation Rules for asn.au (associations)

  • must be;
      (a) an incorporated association in Australia.
      (b) a political party registered with the AEC.
      (c) a trade union or other organisation registered under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.
      (d) a sporting or special interest clud operating in Australia.
  • names must;
      (a) exactaly match the name body name
      (b) be an acronym or abbreviation of the body name.
      (c) be closely related and substantially connected to the registrant.

Eligibility and Allocation Rules for com.au {commercial}

  • must be;
      (a) an Australian registered company or business.
      (b) an Australian partnership or sole trader.
      (c) a foreign compnay licenced to trade in Australia
      (d) an Australian trademark owner or Applicant.
      (e) an association incorporated in Australia.
      (f) an Australian commercial statutory body.
  • names must;
      (a) exactaly match the registered company or trademark name.
      (b) be an acronym or abbreviation of the registered company or trademark name.
      (c) be closely related and substantially connected to the registered company name or trademark.

  • must be;
      (a) an Australian citizen; or
      (b) an Australian
  • names must;
      (a) exactaly match the registerants personal name.
      (b) be an acronym or abbreviation of the registerants name.
      (c) be closely related and substantially connected to the registerants personal name .

      (c) be closely related and substantially connected to the registrant's charity or non-profit organisation.
